Literacy for Living Book 2

Literacy for Living is a photocopiable teacher resource book designed to help develop key literacy skills in students with special learning needs. Book 1 is suitable for students aged 13 to 15; Book 2 for students 15-17.
Each book contains four units, each with a short story dealing with central themes relevant to the age group: bullying, family, relationships, celebrations, risk taking, attraction, tolerance and differences. Each story is accompanied by up to 30 photocopiable worksheets and activities covering:
- word skills
- comprehension
- writing skills
- speaking and listening
- research and extension
Answers are provided.
The main purpose of the units is to develop essential literacy skills, but students will also acquire a better understanding and knowledge of practical living skills, such as planning household tasks, nutrition, conversation skills, body language, assertive behaviour, personal safety, days and dates, budgeting and arranging social events.
Literacy for Living can be used:
- as a stand alone resource for individual students or small groups with special needs
- as units of work for whole class activities.
Literacy for Living is a particularly valuable resource for English Life Skills courses but is equally valuable in mainstream English classes.
