   Maths in the Fast Lane

by Alice Thomas & Margaret Jordan

Maths in the Fast Lane is a maths text book specifically for students capable of faster progress through Years 7 and 8 mathematics, providing greater depth, challenge and understanding. All the content, explanations and exercises a student needs for maths in Year 7 and Year 8, but with a lot more:

§    each topic is treated as a single unit so that students can move through the topic at their own pace, without having to change to another book

§    for each topic there are additional problems, extension exercises and investigations to provide greater challenge and enrichment for more able students

§    relationships between topic areas are developed, leading to a better understanding and appreciation of mathematics

§    an approach aimed at developing and encouraging mathematical aptitude and interest

Maths in the Fast Lane can be used as a stand-alone text or in conjunction with the standard class text, and is particularly suitable for:

§    individuals or groups of students who are able to move faster than the rest of the class and who will benefit from extra    challenge and enrichment

§    accelerated classes where Year 7 and 8 are being completed in one year

Alice Thomas was formerly Head of Mathematics at Meriden School with special experience teaching talented students. She is a member of the Australian Maths Trust and writes problems for the Mathematics Challenge for Young Australians.
